Granadella and the Javea Region
The northern Costa Blanca is one of the most beautiful regions of Spain. Fringed by mountains and with a very mild Mediterranean climate it provides a delightful location for holidays all year round. The beaches range from pebbly bays with their sheltered crystal clear water providing superb swimming, snorkelling and diving to extensive sandy beaches with beach games, windsurfing and special facilities for children.
Granadella hamlet is a little gem with a south facing, sheltered bay
set at the end of a winding road that leads to nowhere else. It has
hardly changed in the last 25 years with a row of prettily painted fishermen’s
cottages leading down to the Blue Flag bay which is served by three
small restaurant/bars. In the high season the bay has lifeguards on
duty and a well demarked separation of small boats from swimmers. It
can be reached from the villa by foot in about 15minutes for the fit
and in about 5 minutes by car. It is surrounded by a protected Park
Forestal which has extensive walks and is a joy at any time of year.
The villa is in the park on the cliffs above the bay and looks back
over the forest to Mount Montgo which rises above Javea bay in the distance.
Javea (sometimes signposted in Valenciano as Xabia) is about 15minutes
away by car and has a thriving fishing port that has been extended to
accommodate a marina. The old town is set above it and the centre has
been recently been pedestrianised. With it narrow streets it provides
plenty of shade in the summer and has a wealth of restaurants and street
cafes. The seafront extending from the port has a promenade with restaurants
for every taste with frontages overlooking the bay so you can watch
the gulls fighting over the fish as the boats come and go from the port.
The other side of the bay has an extensive and sheltered sandy beach
again backed by restaurants and shops which provide plenty of amusement
for all. The beach has facilities for disabled, a range of beach games
and lifeguards on duty in the high season.
For the sporting tourist there is a wealth of facilities - golf, tennis,
diving, boating, fishing, bowls, etc. There are a number of tourist
offices in the town committed to supporting the needs of the tourist
community.
Denia which is about 12km away from Javea can be reached by driving
over the peninsular linking Mount Montgo to the Cap San Antonio and
is a much larger town than Javea and has a port servicing the Balearics.
It is a thriving town and has a delightful shaded main street that is
a pleasure to promenade along in the evenings with the locals. It too
has extensive sandy beaches and two marinas. Set above it is a castle
which is well worth a visit with fantastic panoramic views over the
town to the sea beyond.
In the other direction is Moraira which has up-market shops and a lovely
sandy bay. It is well set-up for tourists who are the mainstay of its
economy.
The area is characterised as being very well set-up to support the foreigner
as it has a large resident expatriate community who demand a high standard
of service and it is rare not to be able to find foods and commodities
to satisfy a wide range of demands.
Further afield are the castles of Guadalest, Alicante and Xativa and
the facilities of Benidorm, Alicante and the majestic state capital
of Valencia.
